CareerFinders, on behalf of our client, a multi-national Group of Companies with diverse business interests, we are seeking to recruit a Senior Legal Counsel to join their growing team based in Limassol. The successful applicant will handle a wide variety of legal-related matters for the Group, with a particular focus in the areas Banking, Financial Services & Capital Markets. You will need to hold an academic background in Law from a well-respected university and should be a qualified lawyer, ideally from a well-regarding European jurisdiction. Approximately 7+ years of relevant professional experience is essential, either working for a Law Firm or in an in-house role, ideally within a Bank, Investment Bank, Hedge Fund or related industry. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills in English are essential. Key Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Provides expert and strategic legal advice in the field of banking, financial, regulatory and capital markets laws.
  • Provides legal support to transactions, contract review, legal research and analysis.
  • Negotiates, sets up, updates and cross-checks framework agreements, master agreements (ISDA documentation, documentation related to listed and unlisted derivatives), documentation to set-up account control agreements, delegation and reporting agreements (EMIR compliant), term-sheets, collateral documents and guarantees (under Luxembourg, French, English law, Monaco law), relating to transactions on the regulated market, over-the-counter, structured products and temporary transfers of securities, warrants & master confirmation agreements for derivatives.
  • Provides legal support to the trading activity and derivatives transactions, as needed.
  • Monitors legal and regulatory developments and advises on actions required to comply with the applicable obligations related to the investment activities of the companies (including, filings, disclosures, reporting etc).
  • Reviews and negotiates facilities, loans, prime brokerage agreements, related security packages (banks and securities accounts, co-debtors obligations etc), release and reliance letters, support letters, NDAs, legal opinions.
  • Assists with the opening and maintenance of private banking and corporate investment banking relationships.
  • Provides guidance on managing legal risks, and on policies and procedures.
  • Handling a variety of legal matters relating to the day-to-day business of the Group.
  • Ensures the Group Companies’ compliance with all relevant rules and regulations.

Key Skills/Experience: 

  • Degree in Law from a well-respected University. (Please state grades on your application/CV).
  • Minimum of 7-10 years’ experience relevant to the role, with a hedge fund, investment bank, investment firm or law firm is essential.
  • Strong knowledge of EMIR, market abuse regulation, financial collateral laws, securities law, derivative contracts.
  • Knowledge of applicable KYC/AML rules for client onboarding.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills, including excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work, understanding the importance of deadlines.
  • High attention to detail and problem solving skills.
  • Experience in project management is a plus.
  • Open-minded, team player with a hands-on personality able to work autonomously.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and collaboration skills.
  • Positive can-do attitude is essential.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English (German/or French is considered an advantage).
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
