CareerFinders, on behalf of our client, an Alternative Investment Fund Manager (AIFM), authorised and supervised by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC), we are seeking to recruit a Risk Manager to join their growing team based in Larnaca. As a Risk Manager, you will play a key role in establishing and maintaining an independent Risk Management Function, functionally and hierarchically separate from portfolio management. As part of your role, you will implement and maintain the Risk Management Policy, ensuring it is appropriate to each AIF’s strategy and disclosed documentation. Our client is seeking applicants who are educated to degree level in a relevant field of study, who possess a minimum of 1-3 years of experience in risk management preferably within an AIFM, investment management firm, or financial institution with exposure to alternative investment strategies. You will need to hold the CySEC Advanced Certification, with the CySEC AML certification considered a plus. An attractive remuneration package is on offer, based on skills and experience.

Key Duties/Responsibilities:

 

  • Establish and maintain an independent Risk Management Function, functionally and hierarchically separate from portfolio management.
  • Implement and maintain the Risk Management Policy, ensuring it is appropriate to each AIF’s strategy and disclosed documentation.
  • Identify, measure, manage, and monitor all material risks (investment, liquidity, credit/counterparty, concentration, operational, valuation).
  • Define and monitor risk limits and risk appetite per AIF, and ensure timely escalation of breaches.
  • Perform risk measurement and stress testing proportionate to the AIF strategy and complexity.
  • Monitor liquidity risk and ensure consistency between assets, strategy, and (if applicable) redemption profile.
  • Oversee leverage risk, including monitoring sources and levels of leverage where applicable.
  • Provide independent risk challenge to portfolio management and material investment decisions.
  • Report regularly to senior management and the Board on risk profile, limit breaches, and emerging risks.
  • Monitor risks arising from delegation and outsourcing of key functions.

 

Key Skills/Experience:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field; advanced degree (e.g., MBA, CFA) will be considered an advantage.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in risk management preferably within an AIFM, investment management firm, or financial institution with exposure to alternative investment strategies.
  • CySEC Advanced Certificate is a must.
  • CySEC AML Certificate would be considered an advantage.
  • Must be able and have experience on Design, implement and operate risk measurement tools, including Value-at-Risk (VaR), stress testing, scenario analysis, and limit-monitoring frameworks, proportionate to the AIFs’ strategies.
  • Strong understanding of alternative investment strategies.
  • Strong understanding of the Cyprus Fund Industry, knowledge of the Luxembourg fund industry would be considered an advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex investment concepts and market insights to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • High level of attention to detail, with a focus on accuracy and precision in portfolio construction and management.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Commitment to integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct in all aspects of portfolio management and client interactions.
  • Fluency in English; additional language skills (e.g., Greek) considered a plus.
