CareerFinders, on behalf of our client, an established Research & Development organisation working on state-of-the-art technology-related projects, we are seeking to recruit a Metamaterial Design Engineer to join their growing team based in Ergates, Nicosia. As a Metamaterial Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing multi-spectral, low-observable structures of metamaterials, performing simulations towards evaluating key properties, optimizing the designs, and collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams to create sophisticated solutions for naval and aviation defense systems. Our client is seeking applicants who are educated to degree level in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related field, who have a theoretical background in materials physics. You will need to be proficient user of simulation tools including, but are not limited to, CST Studio Suite, Ansys HFSS, Zemax OpticStudio, Ansys Lumerical, and COMSOL Multiphysics. Key Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Designing and developing multi-spectral, low-observable structures of metamaterials; performing simulations towards evaluating key properties; optimizing the designs; and collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams to create sophisticated solutions for naval and aviation defense systems.
  • Design novel metamaterials with tailored electromagnetic properties across multiple spectra (e.g., RF, IR and optical).
  • Conduct simulations using software such as CST Studio Suite, Ansys HFSS, and COMSOL to model and analysis of electromagnetic performance and optimize structural designs.
  • Design and develop prototypes, support experimental validation of metamaterial performance using advanced micro/nano fabrication techniques. Apply additive manufacturing (AM) techniques for developing multifunctional composites.
  • Collaborate with teams comprised of engineers from various specializations, as well as physicists and materials scientists.
  • Support technical documentation.
  • Contribute to project planning activities.

Key Skills/Experience: 

  • MSc or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • A theoretical background in materials physics is essential.
  • Robust understanding of electromagnetics, light-matter interactions, wave propagation, and materials designing and modeling is imperative, including radar absorbent materials and display/camouflage technologies.
  • Proficiency in the use of simulation tools is critical for this position. These tools include, but are not limited to, CST Studio Suite, Ansys HFSS, Zemax OpticStudio, Ansys Lumerical, and COMSOL Multiphysics.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Expertise in the fabrication and characterization of radar-absorbing materials and metasurfaces is highly desirable.
  • Expertise in additive manufacturing (AM) techniques, including inkjet printing and nanoscale thin-film deposition, is considered advantageous.
  • Experience in the design and analysis of low-observable (stealth) materials is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
