CareerFinders, on behalf of our client, an established Professional Services Firm with offices in Nicosia, we are seeking to recruit a Head of VAT to join their growing team. As the Head of VAT, you will lead the VAT advisory services team, offering clients guidance on transactions, restructurings, international VAT, and cross-border supply chains. We are seeking applicants who are educated to degree level in a relevant field of study, who are ideally full members of a recognised accounting body. You will need to possess at least 5+ years of proven VAT experience covering both VAT compliance and advisory work, with exposure working with international clients considered essential. Key Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide VAT advisory services to clients, including guidance on transactions, restructurings, international VAT, and cross-border supply chains.
  • Advise on VAT implications of business models, contracts, and corporate structures.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop less experienced team members, fostering professional growth and ensuring high-quality outputs.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients on VAT compliance and advisory matters, including complex technical queries, and assist clients on VAT risk management and mitigation strategies.
  • Oversee and review VAT returns and related filings where necessary, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely submission to VAT authorities.
  • Manage communications with VAT authorities on compliance matters, VAT rulings / opinions, audits, and disputes, ensuring effective resolution.
  • Conduct and supervise VAT reviews of financial statements, working closely with internal teams.
  • Provide technical support and guidance on VAT issues through internal channels, design and deliver internal VAT training sessions to enhance awareness and technical skills across departments.
  • Monitor, interpret and assess legislative changes in VAT and communicating updates across the firm.
  • Contribute to business development initiatives, including client pitches, seminars, and networking opportunities.

Key Skills/Experience:

  • An academic background in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or similar is desirable.
  • Full members of a recognised accounting (ACA/ACCA/CPA) are encouraged to apply.
  • At least 5+ years of solid VAT experience covering both VAT compliance and advisory work is ideal.
  • Exposure to international clients is considered essential.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
  • Strategic thinking and commercial awareness.
  • High attention to detail and organizational skills.
